Earlier today, we had a very productive meeting with Radisson MLA, James Teitsma, to discuss the benefits of modifying and updating the contents section of a shipping Way-Bill.
As a former fork lift operator, Mr. Teitsma is quite familiar with the transportation industry, and agrees that assigning a numeric code to contents being shipped, rather than manually listing items that can be open to interpretation, could make for a much clearer and organized system, not only for Manitoba, but potentially for all of Canada.
Similar numeric systems, like The UN Number, have worked quite well for shipping dangerous goods. Incorporating a similar system, with an accessible contents list/online portal, for all registered shipping from/within Manitoba, would be highly beneficial for shippers!
Mr. Teitsma has agreed to look into the next steps for this project, and we are looking forward to his response!
